Consistency and Faithfulness

Consistency and Faithfulness

Weekly Update – January 7th, 2021

This past Sunday I wanted to encourage you in the midst of a new year, not to something new or to something big, but to something ordinary. We as a people typically like big, grand and new things, but it is the way that we handle the ordinary things in life that shape us into who we are. Therefore, as we begin a new year with the circumstances that are still surrounding us, I want to press you to greater faithfulness and consistency in the ordinary disciplines of the Lord.

First, to help aid you in consistency and faithfulness this year, I want to encourage you to be in the Word of God. For this, I want to pass along to you a few Bible reading plans:

The first one is called the 5 X 5 X 5 Plan. You can find it HERE.

The second one is called The Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan. You can find it HERE.

The third one is called Through the Bible in a Year Plan. You can find it HERE.

The final one is called The Two Year Plan. You can find it HERE.

In addition to Bible Reading, every week there will be, what is called, a fighter verse posted. This simply comes from the website fighterverses.com. The goal of this verse is to press you in fighting for the faith as you walk through your week. I would encourage you to read it, write it out, post it somewhere and memorize it. This week’s verse is Deuteronomy 7:9:

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.”

Secondly, to help aid you in consistency and faithfulness this year, I want to encourage you to be in prayer. If you struggle to know what to pray for, or want to simply bring a bit of variety to your prayer life, you can find an example of what to pray for HERE.

Also, if you are looking for a good resource to help aid your prayer life, there is a short book titled Praying The Bible. You can find it HERE.

Third, to help aid you in consistency and faithfulness this year, I want to encourage you connect with the church. This one may be the most difficult action item listed because for some, it may still not be safe to come out. If you can physically come, then I want to press you to be here every week. If you can’t come out, then I want to press you to watch our services digitally every week. In addition, remember, we post the order of service every week to help you prepare for our worship gathering. You can find it HERE.

As many people do, set New Year’s Resolutions, aim to start off strong and make plans to do new things, but, do not neglect the ordinary. Stand firm and strive for consistency and faithfulness in knowing the Word of God, prayer and in corporate worship.

This week we begin a brief series titled, Growing Your Faith. We will take 5 weeks and consider what it means to grow in our faith before the Lord. Our message this week will be titled “Spirit-Empowered Effort” from 2 Peter 1:3-8. I hope that you will join us in person or via livestream.
