Love: The Gift from God

Love: The Gift from God

Weekly Update – December 17th, 2020

This month we had the opportunity to help support Hannah and Simon Snodgrass in their ministry with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF). We support them every month through giving a small portion of our budget, but this month we were able to specifically partner with them on an initiative that they took with a group of students to whom they have been ministering.

Throughout Covid-19, Hannah and Simon have been meeting with Junior Youth Challenge (ages 11-16) and a Good News Club (ages 6-10) every week via Zoom. Several kids have logged on each week and Hannah and Simon have seen the Lord work in many ways through these times. For Christmas, Hannah and Simon decided to put together a sort of Christmas gift that would tell each kid the real reason for Christmas. The older ones will have a cupcake, notebook and pen, chocolates, and a book by David Robertson called ASK, Real World Questions/Real World Answers. The younger ones will have a tract from the good book company, a coloring book called The Christmas Promise, a Christmas craft pack, and some candy.

This project was funded by you, as we sent the funds over to help provide for the materials for these gifts. Even though we are thousands of miles away, this is a little way that we can partner in sharing the good news of Jesus with children on the other side of the world. Below are some pictures of Hannah and Simon preparing these gifts:

This week we continue our focus on the Advent season with the theme of Love. Our message is titled “Love: The Gift from God” and it will be from 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. I hope that you will join us in person or via livestream.

Serving Him with You,
Pastor Michael Nelson

Christmas Baskets: Thank you for giving. We were able to put together 4 baskets to give away this year.

Christmas Eve: For a variety of reasons, our Christmas Eve service will only be available through video this year. That video will be posted to Facebook and YouTube at 6:00pm, Christmas Eve night. You can access this service through the links listed above.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering: Every year at this time, we raise funds to support missionaries all over the world who are serving with the International Mission Board (IMB). The goal of the IMB is to raise 175 million dollars this year. Our goal at First Baptist Church is to raise $9000. So far we have received $2,120. If you haven’t already, will you consider partnering with us by giving, as we seek to support international missions? You can give on Sunday mornings through one of our offering boxes located in the foyer or the welcome center. Just mark your envelop as “missions” or “Lottie Moon.” Or you can give online HERE. Choose “missions” under the Fund tab. You can find more information about this offering HERE.

Year End Giving: By God’s grace, we are on tract to finish this year on a positive note for 2020. Thank you for being so faithful to give this year despite all of the challenges that have surrounded us. Your giving goes to practical matters such as keeping the lights of the church on and taking care of our staff, but your giving also does so much more. It funds outreach to children in Grandview, it supports women who are recovering from sex trafficking, it provides benevolence for a needy family, it (as seen above) supports ministry all around the world, and most importantly it allows the gospel to be preached every single week. I want to encourage you to finish the year strong in this area. The last Sunday of this year is December 27th, but as long as checks are marked by December 31st or gifts are given online by December 31st, it will count towards 2020.

Health Guidelines: With no changes from the Health Department, we will continue in Phase 2.5 here in Jackson County. That means masks are still required. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 2.5 looks like for our church HERE.
