Overseas Missions

Overseas Missions

Weekly Update – December 10th, 2020

Last Sunday we had J.S. and his wife with us to share about their service in overseas missions. Only his initials will be used in print for security reasons. J.S. and his family are serving in south Asia and have been overseas now for over 15 years. They are currently home on furlough and are looking to go back sometime in January. If you want a picture of J.S. and his family, there are some available in the welcome center. I would encourage you to take one home, put it up somewhere and pray for their ministry every time you see it.

During Bible Study on Sunday, J.S. and his wife shared a bit about their ministry and their testimony. In addition to this, they both talked a little bit about what it means to support missions as a church. If you missed it, I would strongly encourage you to go back and watch it. You can access the video recording of their talk HERE.

J.S. then preached for us during our worship hour. Here he shared a bit more of he and his family’s ministry as he preached from Revelation 7:9-10. You can access the entirety of that service HERE or just the sermon audio HERE.

This week we continue our focus on the Advent season with the theme of Joy. Pastor Matt will be preaching for us from Luke 2:8-20. I hope that you will join us in person or via livestream.

Announcements:

Christmas Baskets: This year we will be putting together 4 Christmas baskets. First Baptist will supply the turkeys, but we are asking you to help supply some of the other items. HERE is a list of what we need. Please drop these needed items in the basket in the foyer by December 13th.

Christmas Eve: For a variety of reasons, our Christmas Eve service will only be available through video this year. That video will be posted to Facebook and YouTube at 6:00pm, Christmas Eve night.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering: Every year at this time, we raise funds to support missionaries all over the world who are serving with the International Mission Board (IMB). The goal of the IMB is to raise 175 million dollars this year. Our goal at First Baptist Church is to raise $9000. Will you consider partnering with us by giving, as we seek to support international missions? You can give on Sunday mornings through one of our offering boxes located in the foyer or the welcome center. Just mark your envelop as “missions” or “Lottie Moon.” Or you can give online HERE. Choose “missions” under the Fund tab. You can find more information about this offering HERE.

Health Guidelines: With no changes from the Health Department, we will continue in Phase 2.5 here in Jackson County. That means masks are still required. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 2.5 looks like for our church HERE.
