Missouri Missions Offering

Missouri Missions Offering

Weekly Update – September 11th, 2020

This Sunday officially kicks off our emphasis on Missouri State Missions. Along with nearly 1,800 other churches, our church partners to pray and give concerning the Lord’s work in our state. To understand a bit more about what this means, here is a description from our Missouri Baptist Website:

“Imagine helping a prison inmate in Jefferson City earn a four-year biblical studies degree from Hannibal-LaGrange University, and thus transform the prison culture as a trained missionary. Or making it possible to launch new student ministries at Missouri’s technical colleges, where no ministries currently exist. Or connecting a lonely senior citizen with a campus minister at The Baptist Home.

You can engage in these ministries – and many more – as you give to the Rheubin L. South Missouri Missions Offering. Our annual state missions offering supports 18 ministries. These include Christian foster care, rescue from human trafficking, ministries to senior adults, summer missions, disaster relief, church revitalization, and other projects that help transform lives and communities with the gospel.

The theme of this year’s offering is taken from 1 Chronicles 29:9. When the Israelites saw King David and other leaders give sacrificially to the construction of the temple, they rejoiced because their leaders had given willingly, “for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord.””

The statewide goal is $725,000 this year. Our church goal is $3,500. I hope that you will consider praying and giving to this effort throughout this month. As with your normal offering, you can give in person, by mail or online. Just mark MMO when you do give.

This week we will continue in our series on the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5-7. On Sunday we will take a look at “The Beatitudes: Faithfully Enduring” from Matthew 5:1-12. I hope that you will join us in person or by livestream.

Announcements:

Grade School Sunday School: In addition to our nursery opening back up, our 1st – 5th grade Sunday School class will be available during our Sunday School hour. This is the only children’s Sunday School class offered at this time. They will meet in the usual location, upstairs in U-5. You can find the health guidelines for this class HERE.

Nursery: This Sunday we will open our nursery back up. The plan is to have two rooms that would hold children ages 0-3. We plan to fully comply with all regulations from the CDC and Jackson County as we seek to safely and wisely care for our children. To start, the nursery will only be for our worship service. You can find the health guidelines for the nursery HERE.

Childcare Meeting: On September 20th following the morning service, there will be a brief, mandatory meeting for all childcare workers. This includes anyone who is volunteering with our nursery or Awana ministries this fall. The goal of this meeting is to ensure that we all are on the same page regarding health guidelines and procedures. We will meet in the sanctuary.

Members’ Meeting: On Wednesday, September 23rd, we will have our regularly scheduled quarterly members’ meeting at 7:00pm. Come and be encouraged through hearing updates regarding various ministries and participate in making decisions regarding the life and direction of the church. The meeting will be in person, but also available virtually through zoom too. For the zoom link for this evening, contact the church office.

Health Guidelines: With no changes from the Health Department, we will continue in Phase 2.5 here in Jackson County. That means masks are still required. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 2.5 looks like for our church HERE.

Awana

On October 4th, Awana will kick off for the year. From 5:45 – 7:30pm, children ages 3 to 6th grade are welcome to come and hear the truth about Jesus, memorize Scripture, and play games every Sunday evening. There will be no Bible Study during this time nor will there be a nursery.

Bible Study

This week we will be concluding our summer Bible Study series in Philippians. Our next study will be starting on September 20th. We will continue to meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:15am on Sunday mornings. You can find a video explaining what to expect in Sunday School HERE.
