Weekly Update – November 25th, 2021
Thanksgiving is often a great time to catch up with friends and family members. Sometimes though, in the midst of trying to talk with someone you haven’t seen in a while, or sitting around a table with a bunch of people, it can get difficult to have real, meaningful conversation. Below are a list of questions, put together by Donald Whitney, to hopefully aid in meaningful discussions that fit the season.
– What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?
– What’s the happiest Thanksgiving memory of your childhood?
– What do you enjoy most about the Thanksgiving holiday?
– Who is the most consistently grateful person you know?
– What’s the one experience for which you are most thankful
this year?
– What is the one book, article, or blog post for which you are
most thankful this year?
– What is the one thing you’ve learned this year for which you
are most thankful?
– If you could thank one person today—near or far, living or
dead—for their influence on your life, who would that person
be?
– Who’s one person you’ve never thanked for their contribution
to your life, but would like to?
– For what do you feel most grateful to God today?
In addition to good, meaningful conversation, perhaps a few scriptures on Thanksgiving would be helpful as well. Or, for your own heart on Thanksgiving, consider some scripture to encourage you in thankfulness. Below are a list of 5 scriptures to meditate on:
Psalm 100:1-5
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 103:1-4
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
2 Corinthians 2:14
But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.
Philippians 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:15-18
See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Lastly, for something to listen to on Thanksgiving, consider this Thanksgiving song from the Gettys:
My Heart is Filled with Thankfulness
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Fighter Verse for the Week:
"Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore." - Psalm 125:1-2
