After 19 weeks we will return to The Sermon on the Mount this coming Sunday. That is a longer break than we usually take in the middle of a sermon series, so let me take just a minute and highlight for you where we have been and where we are going on Sunday mornings.
The first part of The Sermon on the Mount, specifically in chapter 5, can be divided up into three sections. The first section is the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-12, which describes who we ought to be as Christians. The second section, in Matthew 5:13-16, describes the relationship we as Christians should have with the world. Then the third section, in Matthew 5:17-48, describes the relationship we as Christians have with the law of God.
We will now move into chapter 6 of Matthew which gives us a new section in this famous sermon. Here will be looking at what it looks like to live righteously before the world around us. I will be preaching through the first four passages of this chapter, then there will be a rotation of men from the church who will preach in May and June and then finish this series on July 4th.
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.” – James 1:2-3

Health Guidelines: We have now entered Phase 3 here in Jackson County. This does not bring any change from 2.5 for us as masks and social distancing are still required. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 3 looks like for our church HERE.
Secret Church: On April 23rd, beginning 6:00pm at the church, we will join David Platt via simulcast for an intense evening of Bible study and prayer. The goal of this event is to simulate the experiences of churches who are persecuted for the Word of God, but yet hungry for it at the same time. We will join with thousands of other people from all over the world as we study the theme, The Great Imbalance. Come and join us from some or all of this 6 hour night as we study together and pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. You can find out more about this study HERE.
Membership Matters Class: On Sunday evenings, April 11th and 18th, there will be a Membership Matters class for those interested in joining FBC. We will meet from 5:45pm-7:15pm in the library as we discuss what membership at FBC looks like. You can find out more about our membership process HERE.
Annie Armstrong Easter Offering: Every year at this time, we raise funds to support missionaries all over North America who are serving with the North American Mission Board (NAMB). This year, our goal at First Baptist Church is to raise $7500. You can give on Sunday mornings through one of our offering boxes located in the foyer or the welcome center. Just mark your envelop as “missions” or “Annie.” Or you can give online HERE and choose “missions” under the Fund tab. You can find more information about this offering HERE.
Bible Study: We are currently in a study through the book of Galatians. We will continue to meet in the Fellowship Hall this Sunday and in the Sundays to come in order to spread out and remain socially distanced. We will begin at 9:15am. You can find a video explaining what to expect during our Bible Study hour HERE.
Nursery: Our nursery is open for children ages 0-3 every Sunday morning during the worship service hour only. We will fully comply with all regulations from the CDC and Jackson County as we seek to safely and wisely care for our children. You can find the health guidelines for the nursery HERE.
Grade School and Youth Sunday School: At 9:15am, our 1st – 5th graders will meet upstairs in U-5 and our Youth will meet downstairs in the youth room. You can find the health guidelines for these classes HERE.
Awana: Awana is a ministry where children ages 3 to 6th grade are welcome to come and hear the truth about Jesus, memorize Scripture, and play games every Sunday evening. You can view our health guidelines for this ministry HERE. We meet every Sunday night from 5:45-7:30pm.
This week we will be in Matthew 6:1-4. I hope that you will join us in person or via livestream.
Serving Him with You,
Pastor Michael Nelson
