Weekly Update – April 8th, 2021
After 19 weeks we will return to The Sermon on the Mount this coming Sunday. That is a longer break than we usually take in the middle of a sermon series, so let me take just a minute and highlight for you where we have been and where we are going on Sunday mornings.
The first part of The Sermon on the Mount, specifically in chapter 5, can be divided up into three sections. The first section is the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-12, which describes who we ought to be as Christians. The second section, in Matthew 5:13-16, describes the relationship we as Christians should have with the world. Then the third section, in Matthew 5:17-48, describes the relationship we as Christians have with the law of God.
We will now move into chapter 6 of Matthew which gives us a new section in this famous sermon. Here will be looking at what it looks like to live righteously before the world around us. I will be preaching through the first four passages of this chapter, then there will be a rotation of men from the church who will preach in May and June and then finish this series on July 4th.
This week we will be in Matthew 6:1-4. I hope that you will join us in person or via livestream.
Serving Him with You,

Announcements:
Annie Armstrong Easter Offering: Every year at this time, we raise funds to support missionaries all over North America who are serving with the North American Mission Board (NAMB). This year, our goal at First Baptist Church is to raise $7500. You can give on Sunday mornings through one of our offering boxes located in the foyer or the welcome center. Just mark your envelop as “missions” or “Annie.” Or you can give online HERE and choose “missions” under the Fund tab. You can find more information about this offering HERE.
Membership Matters Class: On Sunday evenings, April 11th and 18th, there will be a Membership Matters class for those interested in joining FBC. We will meet from 5:45pm-7:15pm in the library as we discuss what membership at FBC looks like. You can find out more about our membership process HERE.
Secret Church: On April 23rd, beginning 6:00pm at the church, we will join David Platt via simulcast for an intense evening of Bible study and prayer. The goal of this event is to simulate the experiences of churches who are persecuted for the Word of God, but yet hungry for it at the same time. We will join with thousands of other people from all over the world as we study the theme, The Great Imbalance. Come and join us from some or all of this 6 hour night as we study together and pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. You can find out more about this study HERE.
Health Guidelines: We have now entered Phase 3 here in Jackson County. This does not bring any change from 2.5 for us as masks and social distancing are still required. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 3 looks like for our church HERE.
