Weekly Update – June 15th, 2023
As you all know, Vacation Bible School is just around the corner. Every summer our church has a week where we specifically focus on teaching the children of our church and the community the gospel of Jesus Christ. This week always requires a lot of effort, resources and time. Therefore, for the sake of simply doing something because we have always done it, I want to remind you, just as I have done in year’s past, of at least 3 reasons why we do Vacation Bible School and why you should be a part of it.
First, Vacation Bible School provides us with a great opportunity to share the gospel with children. Kids are very moldable at their age. We need to take advantage of this, so that the foundation of truth may be built up into their hearts very early on. This doesn’t mean that we coerce every child into a “profession”, but instead we present the gospel clearly, plainly and in a way they can understand and then we pray for fruit. That fruit may possibly come during Vacation Bible School, or it may come ten years later. Whatever the case, we ought not to become consumed by “numbers of professions” but encouraged by the opportunity we have for gospel faithfulness.
Second, Vacation Bible School provides us with a great opportunity to connect with the parents of children. Now there are a number of children who will come whose parents are already involved in another church. That’s great. But there are also a number of children who will come whose parents aren’t involved in a church and who don’t know Christ. Having their children come for a week of Bible teaching and other fun activities, provides us with the perfect link to share the gospel with families. The Friday night of our Vacation Bible School we always have a closing ceremony and fun night where we invite relatives to come and hear about their child’s week. This is a great link for us as a church to connect with many families. Plus we follow up with many of these families after Vacation Bible School as well. We are called to make the use of every opportunity for gospel sharing. Vacation Bible School provides many.
Third, Vacation Bible School provides us with a great opportunity to serve. We are involved in several different ways throughout our community. But you could easily argue that none of them are as large or as impactful as Vacation Bible School is. Plus, serving in a project such as Vacation Bible School provides every member of the church an opportunity to work together in unity, using their various gifts, to achieve something for the sake of others. And there are also many opportunities for discipleship as younger helpers are paired with experienced teachers watching the Bible being communicated in various settings.
These are only three reasons, out of many, for why we host a Vacation Bible School every year. I would encourage everyone to find a way to be involved this year as we work for the sake of something bigger than ourselves. Our theme is Twists and Turns this year. You can watch the promotional video for it HERE. Go and sign up to help and consider how you might serve for the sake of God’s kingdom.

Fighter Verse for the Week
"Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." - James 4:15-17
