“I Rejoice”

“I Rejoice”

Weekly Update – July 23rd, 2020

Dear Church Family,

Last week in Sunday School we talked about the apostle Paul’s imprisonment from Philippians 1:12-18. One of the striking aspects about his situation was that Paul didn’t complain, he wasn’t anxious or worried, and he didn’t even seek a degree of pity. No, instead he ends verse 18 by saying, “I rejoice.” Through his situation, the gospel was still being proclaimed and brothers and sisters in Christ were being encouraged to boldness in their proclamation of Christ. Paul’s focus was eternal and not temporal as well as on Christ and not his circumstance.

Our circumstances are not necessarily ideal right now. Social distancing, mask wearing, no major events, and now, potentially school being online. All of these things are inconveniences to say the least. Then, add that to the normal pressures of life, and there is potentially a storm at work inside the hearts of some. Even still, consider your focus. Set it on the eternal and not temporal and on Christ instead of what is before you. Let you mindset then affect your heart which will then allow your words and actions to be uplifting to others and pleasing to the Lord.

This week, we continue in Phase 2.5 in Jackson County. That means masks are still required. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 2.5 looks like for our church HERE.

This week we will continue in the Old Testament looking at Malachi 3:13-18 with “Trusting in God’s Goodness.” I hope that you will join us in person or by livestream.

Announcements:

Backyard Bible Clubs: As has been discussed over the last few weeks, in place of a Vacation Bible School this summer, we will have a modified Backyard Bible Club. Due to the restrictions that will necessarily be in place, as well as a likely decrease in volunteers, having a traditional VBS will be next to impossible.  Therefore, our Backyard Bible Club will be held from Wednesday, August 5th – Friday, August 7th.  We will have 3 different age groups rotating through a Bible story, game and crafts.  We will plan to meet outside from 6:30 – 8:00pm.  If you have children to register, you can do so HERE. If you have any questions or if you would like to be involved, feel free to email Alaina Bonin at alaina.bonin@gmail.com

Food Pantry: With the current situation we have not promoted the food pantry in the past few months. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a need though. We have moved the food basket out to the foyer of the sanctuary if you would like to consider giving to our food pantry. You can find a list of items that we need HERE.

Secret Church: For the last few years we have either gathered at the church or in homes to watch Secret Church. Secret Church is described as “a unique, one-night event that is simulcast to over 50,000 participants around the world. Encouraged by our persecuted brothers and sisters’ example, we meet for over 6 hours for intense study of God’s Word and passionate prayer for the persecuted.” This year’s theme was “God, Government and the Gospel.” Secret Church was offered to you this year by password only, since we could not gather to watch it. But now, it is all available online for free. I would encourage you to check out this teaching resource HERE.

We are currently in a study through the book of Philippians. We will meet in the Faith Center on Sundays at 9:15am. You can find the Bible Study schedule HERE. You can find a video explaining what to expect in Sunday School HERE.
