Weekly Update – July 17th, 2020
Dear Church Family,
With the weather getting hotter everyday, one focus of our family has been to find some sort of water activity for the kids to enjoy. That is why it was such good news to me the other day when I heard that the splash pads in Grandview may open up next week. At the same time, Jackson County has indicated that the mandate for masks will likely continue on for the foreseeable future. It is almost like we have one step forward in opening up, but then one step backwards at the same time. With that being said, likely things are not going to change all that much in the next several weeks. Therefore, here is where I want to encourage you. If you are comfortable venturing out and you have not been exposed to Covid-19, then I want to invite you to gather with us Sunday mornings for worship. If the mask requirement is keeping you away, I want to kindly invite you to put a mask on and come anyway. As I said a few weeks ago, I will not accept this as the new normal. But at the same time, this is the current time period we are in. Wearing a mask and socially distancing ourselves does not prevent us from worshiping the Lord together. So if you are able, come this week. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 2.5 looks like for our church HERE.
This week we will be back in the Old Testament looking at Malachi 3:6-12 with “Defending God’s Faithfulness.” I hope that you will join us in person or by livestream.
Serving Him with You,
Pastor Michael Nelson

Announcements:
Backyard Bible Clubs: As has been discussed over the last few weeks, in place of a Vacation Bible School this summer, we will have a modified Backyard Bible Club. Due to the restrictions that will necessarily be in place, as well as a likely decrease in volunteers, having a traditional VBS will be next to impossible. Therefore, our Backyard Bible Club will be held from Wednesday, August 5th – Friday, August 7th. We will have 3 different age groups rotating through a Bible story, game and crafts. We will plan to meet outside from 6:30 – 8:00pm. If you have any questions or if you would like to be involved, feel free to email Alaina Bonin at alaina.bonin@gmail.com
Secret Church: For the last few years we have either gathered at the church or in homes to watch Secret Church. Secret Church is described as “a unique, one-night event that is simulcast to over 50,000 participants around the world. Encouraged by our persecuted brothers and sisters’ example, we meet for over 6 hours for intense study of God’s Word and passionate prayer for the persecuted.” This year’s theme was “God, Government and the Gospel.” Secret Church was offered to you this year by password only, since we could not gather to watch it. But now, it is all available online for free. I would encourage you to check out this teaching resource HERE.
Bible Study
We are currently in a study through the book of Philippians. We will meet in the Faith Center on Sundays at 9:15am. You can find the Bible Study schedule HERE. You can find a video explaining what to expect in Sunday School HERE.
