Backyard Bible Clubs 2020

Backyard Bible Clubs 2020

Weekly Update –  August 6th, 2020

Dear Church Family,

For the first time in 5 months our church hosted an event other than our normally scheduled Sunday morning services. Our Backyard Bible Clubs kicked off on Wednesday night (8/5) with 10 kids meeting out in the front of our church. We had two groups who rotated through music, teaching, games, crafts and snacks. Everything was socially distanced and outside, so this event allowed us to stay within the parameters of the Jackson County Health Department.

For our first night we had 15 volunteers come out and help. As we were talking, I was thinking, this is how the church was designed to function. We are meant to serve together, in person, for the purpose of proclaiming Christ. The times when we gather on Sunday morning are essential, but out of our gathering on Sunday morning should come service. This has been one aspect that we have not had since March due to Covid-19. Thankfully, even if it is only in a small way, we are able to reach out and serve our community these three nights this week through Backyard Bible Clubs. Lord willing, we will get back into some sort of normal rhythm as a church in September.

There will be no update next week as I will be out on vacation. Be looking forward to August 16th though, as we will have Daniel Watson with us. Daniel is a missionary with the International Mission Board on furlough this year from Thailand. He will give us a brief update about his ministry and then preach for us as well. This week we will be in Judges 13-16 looking at Samson as Jeff Norman preaches. I hope that you will join us in person or by livestream.

Announcements:

Food Pantry: With the current situation we have not promoted the food pantry in the past few months. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t a need though. We have moved the food basket out to the foyer of the sanctuary if you would like to consider giving to our food pantry. You can find a list of items that we need HERE.

Members’ Meeting: On Wednesday, August 19th at 7:00pm, we will meet in the sanctuary to vote on the sale of the 4 acre land, north of the church building. If voted yes, the money received will go to remodeling the church. If you have any questions before that date, feel free to connect with me. If you cannot attend in person, there will also be the option of attending through zoom. Contact the church office for that link.

Health and Safety Update: With no changes from the Health Department, we will continue in Phase 2.5 here in Jackson County. That means masks are still required. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 2.5 looks like for our church HERE.

Bible Study

We are currently in a study through the book of Philippians. We will meet in the Faith Center on Sundays at 9:15am. You can find the Bible Study schedule HERE. You can find a video explaining what to expect in Sunday School HERE.
