The One Another’s

Weekly Update – May 7th, 2026 

How is it that we are supposed to live as Christians? Does the Bible say anything about how we are to interact with others?  In short, Yes! The New Testament gives us what we might call 59 one another’s that are to direct us in how we live in relationship with others. In other words, once we become Christians, it is rightly assumed that we would then be connected to God’s church. For it is within the church that we begin to live out the Christian life. Anyone can seek to live rightly when they are by themselves, but when we are placed into relationship with others, that is when the flame of temptation is lit! We have to figure out what it means to love, serve, honor, accept and consider those around us. That is why the way we live with others in the church is so significant. For we have first been reconciled to God (Eph. 2:13), not to live alone, but to be reconciled to others (Eph. 2:14-16). Therefore, to help us live with one another rightly, the New Testament provides the following commands:

• Love one another (John 13:34; this command occurs at least 16 times)
• Be devoted to one another (Romans 12:10)
• Honor one another above yourselves (Romans 12:10)
• Live in harmony with one another (Romans 12:16)
• Build up one another (Romans 14:19; 1 Thessalonians 5:11)
• Be likeminded towards one another (Romans 15:5)
• Accept one another (Romans 15:7)
• Admonish one another (Romans 15:14; Colossians 3:16)
• Greet one another (Romans 16:16)
• Care for one another (1 Corinthians 12:25)
• Serve one another (Galatians 5:13)
• Bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2)
• Forgive one another (Ephesians 4:2, 32; Colossians 3:13)
• Be patient with one another (Ephesians 4:2; Colossians 3:13)
• Speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15, 25)
• Be kind and compassionate to one another (Ephesians 4:32)
• Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19)
• Submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21, 1 Peter 5:5)
• Consider others better than yourselves (Philippians 2:3)
• Look to the interests of one another (Philippians 2:4)
• Bear with one another (Colossians 3:13)
• Teach one another (Colossians 3:16)
• Comfort one another (1 Thessalonians 4:18)
• Encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
• Exhort one another (Hebrews 3:13)
• Stir up [provoke, stimulate] one another to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24)
• Show hospitality to one another (1 Peter 4:9)
• Employ the gifts that God has given us for the benefit of one another (1 Peter 4:10)
• Clothe yourselves with humility towards one another (1 Peter 5:5)
• Pray for one another (James 5:16)
• Confess your faults to one another (James 5:16)
• Do not lie to one another (Colossians 3:9)
• Stop passing judgment on one another (Romans 14:13)
• If you keep on biting and devouring each other…you’ll be destroyed by each other (Galatians 5:15)
• Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other (Galatians 5:26)
• Do not slander one another (James 4:11)
• Don’t grumble against each other (James 5:9)
• We do all this because we are in a real sense “members of one another” (Romans 12:5; Ephesians 4:25)

Obedience to these commands is imperative. It forms the basis for all true Christian community and has a direct impact on our witness to the world (John 13:35). Therefore, over the next several weeks, as part of our prayer of petition, we will be praying that God would further enable us to live out these one another’s with each other as his people. As we pray for these publicly, I want to encourage you to pray for these privately as you consider the relationships that God has given to you. As a result, through living out the one another’s, may we, at FBC, continue to form a culture that displays Christ to each other and the hope of Christ to the world around us.

Announcements:

Parent/Child Dedication: On Sunday, May 10th, we will have a parent/child dedication during our morning service. This is a time for parents to affirm their commitment to raise their child in the Lord (Eph. 6:4), as well as the church to affirm their commitment to invest and encourage parents as well as pray for their child to one day know the Lord. If you have had a child born in the last several months and you would like to take part in this dedication, email michael@firstbaptistgrandview.org

Membership Matters Class: Beginning Sunday, May 3rd, there will be a Membership Matters Class for those interested in joining FBC. This will be a 4 week class (5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24), meeting at 9:15am during our Equipping/Sunday School hour. You can find out more about our membership process HERE.

Game Night: Our monthly game night is Friday, May 15th from 7:00-9:00pm. invite a friend to come with you and bring your favorite game and/or snack.

Family Discipleship Guides: These guides are designed to help equip parents further engage with what our children and youth are learning. You can find a guide for AWANA, HERE and for our Youth, HERE.

Men’s Study: Our Men’s study meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights at 8:00-9:15pm. The book for this study will be The Case for Christ. See Clint Blankenship for more information.

Building Remodel: If you would like to give to our remodel fund, there are commitment cards available in the welcome center. Feel free to pick up one and return it to one an available basket. If you would like to give a one time or a reoccurring gift, you can do so HERE and select “building remodel.” You can also give through one of the offering boxes at church. Be sure to mark your envelop, “building remodel.” Check out a video highlighting the work done so far.

Food Pantry: The food pantry is currently in need of some food items. For a complete list of food pantry needs, click HERE.

Awana Bible Club

Awana is officially on summer break. Clubs are typically held on Wednesdays throughout the school year. Dinner is at 6:00pm with Awana Clubs starting at 6:30pm. Children can be registered HERE.

Equipping Hour

We have three classes held at 9:15am on Sunday mornings. “A Survey in Church History” meets in the Sanctuary, a study in Hebrews in the Fellowship Hall, and a Ladies’ class studying the Old Testament meets in the classroom next to the nursery. You can find more information HERE.
