Vacation Bible School 2022

Vacation Bible School 2022

Weekly Update – June 9th, 2022

As you all know by now, Vacation Bible School is just around the corner.  Every summer, First Baptist Church has a week where we specifically focus on teaching children about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  This year’s theme is titled: Monumental: Celebrating God’s Greatness. Within this theme, kids will learn about the God of the universe who created all things, visible and invisible.  He is a vast and great God, who is far above us and sovereign over all things.  But even though this God is greater than we are, he is still knowable and we can come into a relationship with him through his son Jesus Christ.  Proclaiming this message requires a lot of effort, resources and time, so I pray that you will consider ways that you might be involved this year. If you are still on the fence about serving in this outreach though, as I have shared with you in the past, here are three reasons as to why you should jump into this opportunity.

First, Vacation Bible School provides you with a great opportunity to share the gospel with children.  Kids are very moldable at their age.  We need to take advantage of this, so that the foundation of truth may be built up into their hearts very early on.  This doesn’t mean that we coerce every child into a “profession”, but instead we present the gospel clearly, plainly and in a way they can understand and then we pray for fruit.  That fruit may possibly come during Vacation Bible School, or it may come ten years later.

Second, Vacation Bible School provides you with a great opportunity to connect with the parents of children.  Now, there are a number of children who will come whose parents are already involved in another church.  That’s great.  But there are also a number of children who will come whose parents aren’t involved in a church and who don’t know Christ.  Having their children come for a week of Bible teaching and other fun activities, provides us with the perfect link to share the gospel with families.

Third, Vacation Bible School provides you with a great opportunity to serve.  Our church is involved in several different ways throughout our community.  But you could easily argue that none of them are as large or as impactful as Vacation Bible School is.  Plus, serving in a project such as Vacation Bible School provides every member of the church an opportunity to work together in unity, using their various gifts, to achieve something for the sake of others.  In addition to reaching out, there are also many opportunities for discipleship as younger helpers of our own church are paired with experienced leaders in various capacities.

These are only a few reasons, out of many, for why you should volunteer at Vacation Bible School this year.  There is a sign up sheet in the hall with many positions available for that week.  Consider the opportunity you have to serve for the sake of God’s kingdom and for his glory.

Fighter Verse for the Week

"...I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me." - Philippians 4:11-13
