Weekly Update – February 4th, 2021
One of the things we have not done since this “season” of Covid started was take the Lord’s Supper together. With the various health concerns and the inability to gather like we would like to have brought some hesitation, at least on my part, to us taking as a church. Even so, by God’s grace, those of us who are physically able to attend will take the Lord’s Supper this Sunday, February 7th, during our morning worship service.
When we take the Lord’s Supper, we are celebrating two things. First, we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on our behalf. Then second, we celebrate the unity we have as a church on this truth. What this means then is that for those of us who are able to attend, we will reaffirm these truths together this Sunday as we visibly “proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” (1 Cor. 11:26).
In regards to health concerns that “passing the plate” might bring, we will have individually packaged “communion cups” available on a table in the foyer as you walk in, as well as on the organ bench, if you are coming into service from Bible study. This allows us virtually no physical contact during this time.
Obviously this time will look different than it typically does. We look forward to the time when we can all join together in this celebration as one in the near future. In the meantime, Christ’s church will still remain and we will continue, “in season and out of season” (1 Tim. 4:2) to make known the name of Jesus Christ.
This week we will continue in our brief series titled, Growing Your Faith. Our message will be titled “Disciplined for Godliness” from 1 Timothy 4:1-10. I hope that you will join us in person or via livestream.

Fighter Verse for the Week:
"Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." - Matthew 9:13
Food Pantry: By God’s grace, on a regular basis we have been able to serve our community in a very practical way by providing food for those in need. Currently we have a need for a handful of items to continue this ministry. You can find a list of those items HERE. Feel free to drop non-perishable food items in the basket in the foyer.
Ladies’ Bible Study: Ladies, join us for a Bible study through the book of Colossians starting on February 15th at 6:30pm. The study will be a video based study led by Sheryl Nelson. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway, or sign up by contacting the church office. You can find more information HERE.
Lottie Moon Christmas Offering: Every year at this time, we raise funds to support missionaries all over the world who are serving with the International Mission Board (IMB). The goal of the IMB is to raise 175 million dollars this year. Our goal at First Baptist Church is to raise $9000. If you haven’t already, will you consider partnering with us by giving, as we seek to support international missions? You can give on Sunday mornings through one of our offering boxes located in the foyer or the welcome center. Just mark your envelop as “missions” or “Lottie Moon.” Or you can give online HERE. Choose “missions” under the Fund tab. You can find more information about this offering HERE.
Special Members’ Meeting: Unfortunately over the last few weeks the commitment we received from MBL Development for the purchase of the 4 acre land, north of the church, fell through. Even so, there is another group called Elevate Design who is interested and wants to move forward with purchasing the land. The project and the purchase price is very similar to what MBL Development proposed. Therefore, we will meet on Wednesday, February 10th at 7:00pm in the sanctuary to discuss and vote on the sale of the land. Again, if voted yes, the money received will go to remodeling the church. If you have any questions before that date, feel free to connect with me. If you cannot attend in person, there will also be the option of attending through zoom. Contact the church office for that link.
Health Guidelines: With no changes from the Health Department, we will continue in Phase 2.5 here in Jackson County. That means masks are still required. You can find the official guideline on mask wearing from the health department HERE. You can also find a video that outlines what Phase 2.5 looks like for our church HERE.
