Weekly Update
Children in the Service
Weekly Update – October 9th, 2025 Many times, the worship service may seem like a sort of break for tired and weary parents. This time could provide an hour for parents to refresh, listen and fellowship with others while their children are being cared for and taught by a loving teacher. That is why on the outset, the idea of having children in the worship service may not always seem that appealing. Some may think that it is an inconvenience to parents and…
Reviving our Space
Weekly Update – October 2nd, 2025 Over the last four weeks, we have been looking into the significance of our place. As we kicked off our remodel, we wanted our fundraiser to be more than just the raising of money for a building, but an investment in a place. As many of you know, our goal at First Baptist Church is to raise $600,000. That is no small amount, yet it is not insurmountable either. There have been pledge cards…
Is Revival Coming?
Weekly Update – September 25th, 2025 After the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, many are wondering if revival will break out in America. Kirk’s memorial service was likely the largest in recorded history, with over 90,000 people in attendance, and more than 100 million who watched it via livestream. If you watched the service, you could attest to the gospel being preached with great clarity. In fact, it was proclaimed many times. Additionally, there was this…
Recent Tragedies
Weekly Update – September 18th, 2025 At 2:40pm on September 10, 2025, it was announced that Charlie Kirk had died. In many ways, the world went silent. I had never seen him speak in person, nor had I ever been to one of his debates, but like so many, I had watched YouTube videos, interviews and had watched his career from afar. In the last week, you have likely seen a thousand different comments or read numerous articles about Kirk’s…
The Need for a Place
Weekly Update – September 11th, 2025 In the 1840s, two Baptist preachers named Jeremiah Farmer and W.P.C. Caldwell, along with two deacons from the West Fork Baptist Church decided to organize a church closer to their community. The new church, named the United Baptist church of Jesus Christ, was constituted on Monday, July 10, 1848, with 12 charter members. At this time, the area that we know now as Grandview wasn’t incorporated yet. In fact, it was a rural community which after…
Sunday Night Service
Weekly Update – September 4th, 2025 Last year we brought back our Sunday night service on the 2nd Sunday of the month. As I often remind us, everything we do here at First Baptist Church is meant to be done on purpose. We are not looking to merely fill a spot in the week or give you something extra to do at night. We want to be deliberate in how we conduct ourselves and intentional in seeking to fulfill our…
Fall Home Groups
Weekly Update – August 28th, 2025 The Christian life is never a solo journey. We need consistent encouragement from each other in order to persevere in faith and live lives characterized by love and obedience to Christ. Here at First Baptist Church, we believe Home Groups are an excellent way to facilitate the mutual encouragement, care, and service that the Bible calls the local church body to practice toward one another. Therefore, as we prepare for another season of home…
Family
Weekly Update – August 21st, 2025 In Nehemiah 10, there are 84 men who come together to sign a commitment to reaffirm the covenant made at Sinai and to live according to the Old Testament Law. Some of these men were leaders, Levites and heads of their homes. By no means was this all of Israel. But the goal wasn’t just for these men to sign this commitment and move on with their lives. No, in Nehemiah 10:28, these men…
The Lord’s Supper
Weekly Update – August 14th, 2025 On Sunday, we took the Lord’s Supper together as a church. We used to take it quarterly, then we paused for a while during Covid, began to take it every other month and now we take it monthly. Some argue that taking the Lord’s Supper too frequently causes a church to forget its significance, but I would argue that we ought to long for the gospel to not only be proclaimed in word but…
Confession
Weekly Update – August 7th, 2025 Confession can be a confusing topic in the Christian life. The reason why is because many wonder if there is a need to actually confess sin. Very few Christians will deny that they still sin, but if we are forgiven in Christ (Eph. 1:7), accepted by God (Rom. 5:1), justified of all our sins (Rom. 10:10), and waiting for the fullness of our inheritance to come (Eph. 1:14), then why the need to confess…
Building Remodel Update
Weekly Update – July 31st, 2025 During our members’ meeting last Sunday, we gave an update on our building remodel. Essentially, we have divided up the remodel of our building into three phases. Phase 1 is the outside, dealing with the front columns, all the windows, the roof and steeple. Phase 2 is the interior, mainly comprising the sanctuary, gym and front entrance. Phase 3, which will likely be a bit down the road, deals with a new entrance, and…
John MacArthur’s Ministry
Weekly Update – July 24th, 2025 The first time that I saw John MacArthur in person was in 2006 at the Together for the Gospel conference in Louisville, KY. The theme for this year’s conference was Expository Preaching and MacArthur’s topic was Forty Years of Faithful Ministry. In his sermon he reflected on the foundation of his ministry set in the authority of God’s word displayed through expositional preaching. He wasn’t flashy by any means, but he was clear, and…
