Weekly Update – August 8th, 2024
On Sunday morning for the last two weeks, we have been talking about evangelism. Two weeks ago, we saw the apostle Paul’s desire for his fellow countrymen to be saved (Rom. 10:1). This desire flows out of the agony that he has in his heart because of their separation from God (Rom. 9:3). Though they have a zeal for God, Paul says that their zeal does not come with a knowledge of the truth (Rom. 10:3). In other words, those apart from Christ may be sincere in what they believe, but they are ignorant about what God requires. God requires a perfect righteousness. Without this righteousness, there is not hope of meeting God’s standard, leaving us doomed to an eternity under the wrath of God for the payment of our sin (Rom. 1:18).
The good news is that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness (Rom. 10:4). We saw last week that we don’t have to search for it either (Rom. 10:6-7). The good news of Jesus Christ has been proclaimed (Rom. 10:8) and all who call upon his name will be saved (Rom. 10:13). The question I want to answer this week is, what is the good news that must be received in order to be saved? If we all need a perfect righteousness, and that has been fulfilled by Jesus Christ, then how do we receive Jesus, in order to be made right with God. To answer this question, I want to pass along to you a basic outline called, Two Ways to Live. You can find it below:
Two Ways to Live provides all the necessary information that we must believe in order to receive the perfect righteousness of God and be considered justified before him. But not only must we believe this good news, we must also have it close to our hearts so that we might be ready to share it with others. As we will see this week, faith in Christ only comes through hearing the word of Christ. Therefore, we must be prepared to make the gospel known. On of the best ways that I have been helped in my own evangelism is to keep a tract with me, such as the one above. This Sunday, these tracts will be available to you. You will be able to find them as you exit the sanctuary and as you pass through the welcome center. I would encourage you to take a few with you. Then, do not seek to merely pass them out, but use it as a guide to aid you in making Christ known as you call others to faith in Jesus Christ.
Serving Him with You,
